Home Maintenance

As a First Time Home Buyer, you'll want to setup a general home maintenance schedule. This is a must to keep your home in tip-top shape. Doing preventative maintenance can help you to avoid major and expensive repairs later on. Here are just a few suggestions for you.

January - clean the condenser coils beneath or behind your refrigerator so it will cool more more efficiently.

February - inspect the grout and caulking around sinks, bathtubs and showers. Repair or replace any and all damaged areas.

March - replace the batteries and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

April - clean all rain gutters and look to make sure your downspouts are draining away from the foundation of your home.

May - service your air-conditioning system before the first hot day comes around.

June - clean the lint from your clothes dryer vent where the air goes to vent to the outdoors.

July - check all GFCI devices and outlets using the test button. If they fail to trip you should have them replaced.

August - check your roof from the ground, using binoculars. For any missing or damaged materials and your interior ceilings and walls for any signs of water leakage. Be sure to always check affer storms and high winds.

September - have your heating system serviced, before the weather turns cool.

October - have your fireplace and flue inspected and cleaned, before you light your first fire.

November - replace the batteries and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

December - review your fire-escape plan. Check the pressure and expiration date on all fire extinguishers, in your home.

By taking the time to fallow this Home Maintenance Calendar, you and your wallet will be much happier in the long run!

All First Time Home Buyers are more than welcome, to print this Maintenance Calendar out!

Dale, this is a great breakdown of items we should maintain.  I like that they are spread throughout the year.  It'll help you avoid being hit with huge costs at one time.  Makes much more sense to spread it out.  Thanks!

Howdy there Carl, Ceil, Chanda

Its sure always a real pleasure, to have Y'all stop in to sit and visit for a bit. And I'm always glad to read and write a reoly back to the fine comments, Y'all always leave on the posts, here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friends

Carl and Ceil - Glad you like it, it sure does seem a bit easyer to put things off untell another day sometimes. But by doing that, we can very will end up payen a lot more in the long run. Than we would have, if we had only fixed the item when we first found it.

Chanda - Thank you kindly, you are right about. It sure does help folks when they are not haven to fix a whole lot of things all at one time. It sure does make ones wallet feel a lot better, when their not taken so much out at one time.
